Hold to winch a platform of mochi passengers up a tall candy shaft - the longer you hold the faster you go, and the faster you go the harder it swings.
Mochi Lift is a one-button game where the button is a throttle. A platform hangs on a rope in a tall shaft with a row of mochi passengers sitting on it. Hold anywhere and the winch spools up - slow at first, full speed after a couple of seconds of holding. Let go and it coasts back down to a stop. The lift never falls, so it waits wherever you leave it for as long as you like.
Speed is the risk. A running winch shakes the rope and sets the platform swinging, and the faster it runs the wider that swing gets: a crawl barely rocks the mochi, full speed has them hanging on at the edge of their grip. Chevrons on the rope show your throttle and a bubble level under the platform shows the swing, with red zones marking how little room is left. Go too far and the passenger sitting furthest out on that side slips off - they catch the rope and are hauled back aboard shortly after, so it costs you the moment, not the ride.
The 20 hand-tuned levels add one thing at a time. Beams slide across the shaft and block the lift completely (level 4) - and because the winch coasts, you have to decide to slow down long before you reach one. Pendulums swing across and clout the platform (level 7). Steam vents blow sideways and push the sway directly (level 11). Slack stretches of rope let the winch bite nearly twice as hard (level 15), so the same hold runs away with you.
Reaching the top floor is the whole goal. Nothing is timed, the lift cannot fall and a slipped passenger always climbs back aboard, so a level can never become unwinnable or lost. Clear all 20 and Endless mode opens: taller shafts with denser furniture and every mechanic live from the very first endless shaft, seeded by the level number. Finishing any level always lights up all three stars.

Mochi Lift has exactly one control, and the trick is that it isn't a switch - it's a throttle. Hold and the winch spools up, slowly at first and then faster the longer you keep holding, taking a couple of seconds to reach full speed. Let go and it coasts down over about a second rather than stopping dead. So how long you hold is how fast you are travelling, and how fast you are travelling is the only decision in the game - because speed is what shakes the rope.
The platform hangs, and a running winch keeps shaking it. At a crawl the mochi barely rock. At full speed they are swinging near the edge of what they can hold on to, which means the ride is fine right up until anything else happens - a beam clangs, a pendulum clouts you, a vent puffs - and then somebody is gone. That is the whole tension: full speed is not forbidden, it just spends all of your margin, and margin is what you need whenever the shaft gets busy.
The two readouts are the game's real interface. Chevrons run up the rope showing the throttle - one green chevron is a crawl, four red ones is everything the winch has. Under the platform is a bubble level with red zones painted at each end, showing how much swing the passengers have left. Learning to read those two together - drop the throttle here, ride it out there - is the skill, and it is a genuinely different one from reaction or timing.
Because the winch coasts, every decision has to be made early. You cannot slow down under a beam; you have to decide to slow down well before it. And sway does not vanish the moment you release - it needs a few seconds of slow running to settle, so the choice is usually 'go slow now and be ready' versus 'sprint this clear stretch and hope nothing bumps me'. Beams block the shaft and force a full stop. Pendulums clout the platform. Steam vents shove the sway sideways. Slack stretches of rope let the winch bite nearly twice as hard, so the throttle you thought you had is suddenly far more.
Nothing is timed, the lift cannot fall and nothing can be lost: a passenger who slips grabs the rope and is winched back onto the deck a second or two later, so speed costs you time and composure rather than the ride. A single button, no falling, no clock, no fail card - and underneath it, a real speed-versus-risk dial you are turning the entire ride.
No, never. The winch and brake hold it wherever you leave it, indefinitely. That's deliberate: the only thing that can go wrong in this game is the sway, so there's no falling to panic about.
The platform swayed too far. Most of the sway comes from the winch itself - the faster you are climbing, the wider it swings - and the rest comes from bumps: a beam clang, a pendulum, a steam vent. At full speed there is almost no room left for a bump, which is why the two together are what usually costs you somebody.
Hold in short bursts instead of holding continuously. The winch spools up while you hold and coasts down when you let go, so a series of short taps keeps it at a crawl - and a crawl barely sways at all.
Drop the throttle and wait. The sway is a damped swing, so it settles by itself once the winch is slow, and waiting costs nothing because there's no timer.
They fall a little way, catch the rope, and the winch hauls them back onto the platform a second or two later. Nobody is ever lost for good - Mochi Lift has no fail state at all, so the only thing a slip really costs is the wobble and the time.
Slack rope. The winch bites nearly twice as hard in those stretches, so the same hold takes you well past normal top speed - and that means a sway wider than anything else in the game. Enter them slow and hold in short bursts.
Beams slide back and forth across the shaft. Ease off early, coast to a stop a little way below one, wait for it to slide aside, then go. Nudging into it clangs the platform and sets it swinging, which is the real cost of impatience.
